Yottabit was started by two friends who could not, between them, find a sofa that suited the rooms they actually lived in. Twelve years on, we make twelve a month, by hand, in Glenmarie.
Yottabit Bespoke was incorporated in 2014 in a single-car garage off Jalan Kelang Lama. The first commission was a walnut writing desk for a journalist friend; the second, a pair of dining chairs for her neighbour. Every commission since has come the same way — by referral.
In 2019 we moved into a leased 600 sqm unit in Subang Jaya. In 2023 we relocated to our current home in Glenmarie Industrial Park, a 1,400 sqm climate-controlled workshop, finishing room and small private showroom that opens by appointment.
We have deliberately stayed small. Twelve commissions a month is the number our master joiner can personally walk past, eyeball, and put a hand on before it leaves the door. It is also the number we can deliver and install without rushing anyone.
Furniture that can be repaired, re-foamed and re-covered outlasts trends. We log every piece so it can come back to the workshop, ten or twenty years on.
Solid wood where it matters, real horsehair in the seat fronts of our higher-end sofas, brass castors that wear well. No stapled veneer pretending to be timber.
Most of our hardwood is kiln-dried in Selangor or Negeri Sembilan. Where we import, we choose mills with FSC chain-of-custody documentation we can show you.
A quote is a quote. We do not load and discount. The price on day one is the price on delivery day, unless you change the brief — in which case we re-quote in writing.
Our material library lives on three long oak racks at the back of the showroom. About 380 fabric swatches, 24 finished wood samples, 12 leather hides, 9 brass and stainless trims. We invite every client to spend an hour with it.
Most have been with the workshop for at least four years. None are sub-contracted. The same hands that sand the frame also fit the cover.
Five-strong joinery bench, four upholsterers, two assemblers, one frame specialist.
Trained at UiTM and the Glasgow School of Art respectively; you will meet at least one at your first studio visit.
Twenty-six years with shellac, oil and water-based finishes. Every piece passes through her hands.
Two delivery teams of two. They build, level and walk you through care on the spot.
Our showroom is small and intentionally not a shopfront. We meet by appointment Monday to Saturday, between 09:30 and 18:30, so we can give your project undivided attention.
